The aim as photographers should be always to capture and bring to life our events and places of interest, whilst contributing to the preservation of memories for future generations.
This is an introduction into Digital Photography. It covers the main aspects of digital photography, giving a broad overview and a good foundation for you to further develop into a professional photographer.
Photography basic is fundamental to any aspiring photographer requires understanding of core camera operations as an artistic and communication tool. As an artistic field of studies one really never and truly complete their “learning” and as such, they can improve by building on these fundamental through practice, mistakes and open to learning from other more experienced in the profession.
This course is inclusive of, but not limited too; the use of camera; smartphones, tablets as for photography, and their functions, what is the purpose of the lens, the impact lighting has on your picture, and how you can compose a picture based on the subject and environment.
Participants should have a Point and Shoot or Digital Single Lens Reflex – (DLSR) camera to ensure that they are in position to capture all the learnings that is being provided.
At the end of the course, all participants are expected to have a good understanding of the use of a Digital SLR Camera or smart devices and be able to capture images that are of an acceptable standard in the profession
Whilst tuition is free of charge, participants are required to provide their own training materials and equipment. For participants undertaking this course, an estimated cost of course materials, tools and equipment ranges between two thousand and three thousand dollars ($2000.00- 3000.00).

- Certificates of Completion would be awarded to persons who:
- Successfully complete all Assessment exercises or quizzes. Minimum pass mark – 65%
- Successfully complete all assignments and portfolios where required. Minimum pass mark – 65%

I have over ten years of experience in photography at the professional level. My experience involves capturing images at major and small events throughout Trinidad and Tobago, which has included the Queen Visit during CHOGM, many corporate related events, concerts and weddings.
My love for photography also extends to our flora and fauna, capturing images of many parts of our island landscapes.
I have won a couple photography awards from the Trinidad and Tobago Photographic Society (wedding category), and I also hold a Diploma of Professional Photography from the Photography Institute (UK), both of which has aided in my development as a photographer.
My aim as photographer is always to capture and bring to life our events and places of interest, contributing to the preservation of memories for future generations to come.

Photography isn’t the only way to capture the world, but it certainly is one of the most effective. A photograph records as frozen moment in our time with its emotions and energy as in its actuality. Today, photography underlines the essence of the events of our times and life. Photographs have visual power and it impact, changes the way we appreciate and value the times and occasions of our lives. One can look no further than the nearest social media feed, news station or magazine article, to see it influences as a progressive social influencer / actor.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- A digital device and internet access for virtual learning.
- Individuals interested in participating must be sixteen (16) years and over possess:
- Two valid forms of picture Identification (Identification Card / Passport).
- Proof of residency (non-nationals)
- Participants should have a camera (Point and Shoot or Digital SLRs).

Module 1: Orientation – Introduction to Photography/ Lighting & Equipment/Health & Safety, early history of photography.
Module 2: Fundamentals of Photography
Module 3: How to use the Rule of Thirds; Composition. Composition and framing
Module 4: Camera settings and techniques
Module 5: Editing and processing digital images. How to shoot in the morning and evening
Module 6: Small Entrepreneur Development- Financial Management of Small Business
How to design your own backdrop to capture unique images.
Module 7: How to shoot in RAW; Portraits and Landscapes. How to use good editing software.
Module 8: Introduction on how to operate and taking aerial shoot using drone
Module 9: How to create Triptych Photographs and Matting.
Module 10: How to create Texture and Pattern Photos
INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS:
Class discussions, PowerPoint, YouTube, demonstration, teacher modeling, group activities, peer feedback, and individual feedback, hands on assignments and practice.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
This is an introduction into Basic Digital Photography and is designed to develop the participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to enable them to undertake the main aspects of digital photography.
The training offered, can also stimulate opportunities for unemployed participants to become employable; pursue higher training qualification; encourage entrepreneurial development and the use of best practices for aspiring photographers.
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Understand photography from film to digital as how it relates to creative arts, history, media and culture in both a historical and contemporary context.
- Understand the basic vocabulary about photography, cameras and incorporating its understanding when any photographic image is created.
- Find creative ways to solve aesthetic and conceptual problems using a variety of photographic tools and strategies.
- Create photographic work that is personally and /or economically significant and fulfilling.
- Manage challenges and opportunities of working in a photographic environment.
- Establishing a supportive network that provide learning and employment

ASSESSMENT STRUCTURE
A model of periodical in-course competency based assessment comprising of online questions and answers examination coupled with a final assessment project is proposed for this course. Participants may be required to work individually or in groups to do course based assignments.
They will be assessed at different intervals over the training period as this helps reduce anxiety with respect to the finality of testing. This assessment method, enhances learning since trainees will be able to remediate weaknesses before the course ends.
ATTENDANCE/TARDY POLICY:
Participants must achieve a complete seventy five (75%) percent attendance to achieve the minimum certification level. Participants are expected to attend class and to let the instructor know by email if they have to be absent for any reason.
Although it is the responsibility of the Participants to drop a course for nonattendance, the facilitator and/or the Division’s representative has the authority to drop participants for excessive absences.
A Participants may be dropped from a course for absenteeism after the Participants has accumulated absences in excess of 25 percent of the hours of instruction (including lecture and assignments)
PARTICIPATION:
Each Participants is expected to participate actively in class activities.
Active participation involves coming to class regularly ,on time and prepared; responding to questions, and engaging in class activities and must complete all assignments and in class/ online quizzes.
LATE SUBMISSION POLICY:
The instructor will provide specific due dates for all assignments. Late assignments will cause participants grade to be reduced.
HOMEWORK EXPECTATION:
Participants are expected to complete all homework assignments in order to achieve the learning objectives for this 10-week course.
ACADEMIC HONESTY:All acts of plagiarism are not tolerated including: cheating, claiming one’s work as their own, fabrication and helping one to commit any of these acts. Any violations of academic honesty will receive strict disciplinary action. Possible punishments for academic dishonesty may include a grade of “0” or “F” or / and participant be dropped from the programme.
